Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) recently named Tamika Johnson, an oncology charge nurse, and Jason Grady, our regional STEMI educator, its 2020 Employees of the Year.

“Each year, the selection committee is challenged to select one of our amazing Employees of the Month to be the Employee of the Year,” said Carol Burrell, president and CEO of NGHS. “This year, we had such remarkable candidates, we couldn’t choose just one! Tamika and Jason, both long-time NGHS employees, have received many accolades throughout their careers here. I’m thrilled to honor them with NGHS’ highest award.”

Johnson, a 25-year employee, has been recognized by patients, colleagues and hospital leadership. She was named NGHS’ Employee of the Month in 2019 and 2015. In 2019, she was a recipient of the DAISY Award, an international program that recognizes clinical skill and compassionate care.

“Tamika provides excellent care to her patients, their family members and our staff,” said Brenda Simpson, NGHS’ chief nursing officer. “She is committed to improving the health of our community in all she does, whether she is educating our new staff or proving care to her community in her spare time.”

Grady, a 15-year employee, has also received many honors. In addition to his Employee of the Month award in 2019, Grady was named one of Georgia Hospital Association’s 2019 Hospital Heroes for his work to improve care for cardiac patients throughout the region. He coordinates emergency care and communication between Emergency Medical Services personnel from 17 counties, Emergency Departments of 12 regional hospitals and interventional cardiology teams with The Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“With Jason’s guidance, our STEMI program continues making history and has become an example for other regions to follow,” said Kevin Meyer, director of Invasive Cardiology for NGHS. “His efforts have saved lives and will continue to save lives in the future.”

“Tamika and Jason truly represent the best of us,” said Burrell. “We are very fortunate to have them in our NGHS family.”
