For Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and His Wife, Joan, This Mission Is Personal

For Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr and his wife, Joan, the Fostering Success Act Tax Credit is more than a worthwhile cause. It’s personal.
Joan and her twin sister began their lives in foster care, born to a young mother who was unable to raise them. Within their first year, they were adopted, giving them a loving home and the stability and opportunities that helped shape their futures. Joan knows how fortunate they were. For thousands of Georgia youth, the story is very different.
Many young people spend years in foster care, only to reach adulthood without the family support or financial resources most of us take for granted. They have ambitions, talents, and the desire to succeed, but something as basic as reliable transportation or a safe place to live can stand between them and an education or a career.
That reality is why Chris and Joan are encouraging more Georgians to support the Fostering Success Act. Through the tax credit program, individuals and businesses can redirect state income taxes they already owe to help youth aging out of foster care pursue college, technical education, apprenticeships, and the stability they need to succeed. The dollar-for-dollar tax credit costs them nothing.
For Georgia’s business leaders, the opportunity goes beyond helping young adults overcome difficult circumstances. It is also an investment in the next generation of Georgia’s workforce. These are young people who want to learn, work, and contribute to their communities. With the right support, they can become the skilled workers and professionals our state needs.
Joan was given the chance to grow up with a family that believed in her future. She and Chris hope more Georgians will help provide that same sense of opportunity to young adults who haven't been as fortunate.
