The Technology Association of Georgia, the state’s leading association dedicated to the promotion and economic advancement of Georgia’s technology industry, announced that Georgia State Representative Kevin Tanner (R – Dawsonville) and State Senator P.K. Martin (R- Lawrenceville) have been awarded with the 2017 Technology Legislator of the Year Award.  The award is given annually to lawmakers who demonstrate support and understanding of Georgia’s technology issues and industry.
 
“Senator Martin and Representative Tanner are two of the strongest supporters of the technology industry at the Capitol. They have worked tirelessly on important issues that impact technology firms and work to see that Georgia is not only open for business, but open for innovation,” said Larry Williams, president and CEO of TAG.
 
 Senator P.K Martin (R – Lawrenceville) has been an outstanding leader and support for the technology community. Senator Martin sponsored SB 117, the Georgia Technology Authority bill and SR 410 a study committee to examine information technology corridors in Georgia. The study committee on information technology corridors will review current state incentives and opportunities for future incentives for technology growth. The study committee will directly foster the growth in information technology to the benefit of Georgia’s economy.

Representative Kevin Tanner (R – Dawsonville) has continued to support and pay close attention to technology related issues. Rep. Tanner sponsored the UAS bill HB 481 which allowed for preemption for unmanned aircraft systems and repealed conflicting laws relating to UAS. The legislation will allow for better basic regulation on unmanned aircraft systems and support growth in the UAS industry within Georgia.
