Governor Deal Appoints Two Georgia Power Executives to State Boards

Gov. Nathan Deal appointed Paul Bowers to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Ports Authority. Bowers’ appointment creates a vacancy on the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, which will be filled by Chris Cummiskey. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Paul Bowers, Georgia Ports Authority
Bowers is the chairman, president and CEO of Georgia Power, the largest subsidiary of Southern Company. He sits on the boards of Nuclear Electric Insurance Limited, AFLAC, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Atlanta Committee for Progress, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Research Alliance. Bowers is also a curator for the Georgia Historical Society. He was previously a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s Energy Policy Council. Bowers earned a bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida and a master's degree in Management from Troy University. He is also a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Executive Management Program. Bowers and his wife, Karen, have two children and two grandchildren. They reside in Atlanta.
Chris Cummiskey, Board of Regents
Cummiskey is the executive vice president of external affairs and nuclear development for Georgia Power. He was previously the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and has experience as a manager and director of energy and gas derivatives trading for companies, including RWE Trading Americas and MIECO. Cummiskey served as a state director for U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson, as chief of staff for the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives and as the director of state relations for the University of Georgia. He sits on the University of Georgia Honor’s Program advisory board and the board of directors for the University of Georgia Athletic Association. Cummiskey earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Rebecca, have two children and reside in Atlanta.
