In Georgia, like most of the United States, economic stability and workforce conditions are on the upswing for business owners and job seekers alike. In fact, the combination of record-low unemployment rates and new job creation has industry leaders in our state facing the unique difficulty of increased competition for identifying top-tier talent for current vacancies and the jobs of the future. The Georgia Foundation for Public Education wants to help schools across Georgia make sure that every student in our classrooms can find a career they enjoy while earning a living wage in their own hometown. 

In partnership with Georgia Power Company and the Georgia Department of Education Career, Technical and Agricultural Education Division, schools in Georgia are encouraged to apply for mini-grants that can be used for student career-readiness activities associated with the utilization of the YouScience aptitude assessment tool. This unique college and career guidance platform is free for every Georgia student to use through a partnership between the Georgia Department of Education and Technical College System of Georgia.

“Our foremost goal and responsibility is to prepare students for their next step after high school,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “Partnerships like this one with the Georgia Power Company are a perfect example of the education/industry partnerships that will help us equip every student with the tools they need to be successful. I cannot thank Georgia Power and the Georgia Foundation for Public Education enough for investing in Georgia’s public schools and students.”

Georgia CTAE has worked hand in hand with business and industry partners to accelerate student achievement of the knowledge and skills in today’s workforce. Those schools that want to take student preparedness for post-secondary and career planning to the next level but lack complete resources to do so can apply for up to $5,000 in upfront funding due to the generous donations and ongoing support of our state’s future workforce by Georgia Power’s Office of Community and Economic Development.
