Georgia DOT has awarded 27 contracts for statewide transportation projects totaling $42,483,289.48. These projects were advertised in May, bids were received on June 22 and contracts were awarded on July 6 to the lowest qualified bidder. 

General construction projects represent 38 percent of the awarded funds. The largest contract is an investment of $8.9 million for construction of a bridge in Troup County. This project replaces an existing 81-year-old bridge on Greenville Street over CSX Railroad in LaGrange. The contractor is C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. and the estimated completion is October 31, 2019.

An $8.1 million contract was awarded for nearly 10 miles of widening and reconstruction in Worth County on State Route 300. Right turn lanes will be constructed or extended to meet deceleration distance regulations. 

Other construction contracts include roundabout projects in Lumpkin and Newton counties; and construction of bridges in Madison and Clay counties.

Resurfacing represents 24 percent of the awarded funds. In Chatham and Effingham counties, a $1.9 million contract was awarded for nearly five miles of resurfacing on SR 26 and SR 17. A $2.1 million contract was awarded to improve 4.4 miles of SR 25 in Bryan County. Two resurfacing contracts totaling $4.2 million were awarded for projects in Macon on county roads and on SR 224.

Safety contracts, representing 15 percent of awarded funds, include traffic signal and striping upgrades on SR 8 and SR 236 in DeKalb and Gwinnett counties, and SR 141 in Fulton County; and 41 miles of pavement marking upgrades on I-185 and SR 411 in Muscogee, Harris and Troup counties. 

The awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2018 to $929 million. FY 18 began July 1, 2017.
