Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Announces Christmas Treecycling Dropoff Locations for Gwinnett County

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, December 13th, 2019

As families select the perfect live Christmas tree, strap it to the roof of their car and find the perfect spot for it in their home, they may not want to think about what will happen to it AFTER the holidays. A long-standing tradition in Gwinnett County, Bring One for the Chipper presents an opportunity for individuals, couples, roommates and families to carry a little bit of that Christmas magic into 2020 by breathing new life into their tree. Between December 26 and January 20, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful will be asking Gwinnett County residents to drop off their live Christmas trees at local fire stations for collection. Those trees will then be transported to Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville for the big day on January 25, 2020 for the annual Bring One for the Chipper event.

“2020 will mark Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful’s 37th year as an innovator for recycling Christmas trees in Georgia – which has since been celebrated as Bring One for the Chipper by Keep Georgia Beautiful affiliates statewide for about a quarter of a century,” said Schelly Marlatt. “We’re extremely proud of that fact and love that it continues to grow year after year. While virtually no one wants to see the holiday season come to an end, Bring One for the Chipper is a great way for parents to not only teach their kids about the importance of recycling – or in this case TREEcycling, but it can also serve as a new tradition where they wave goodbye to the current year and look ahead to the new one. Come springtime, the mulch that is generated from the Christmas trees we’ve collected will appear in parks and community greenspaces all over the county, as well as in landscaping around municipal buildings and maybe even at the school they attend. I can’t think of a more powerful image to share with a child about how recycling works. That Christmas tree that once held so much wonder for them could become a part of their favorite playground or help the flowers grow around their school.”

The following locations will be accepting live Christmas trees between December 26, 2019 and January 20, 2020. Before dropping them off, trees must be free of lights, tinsel, decorations and tree stands in order to be treecycled.
