Mayor Vince Williams Elected National League of Cities’ 2nd Vice President

Vince Williams, current mayor of Union City and first Vice President at GMA, was elected to the position of Second Vice President of the National League of Cities (NLC) during the League’s City Summit on Saturday, November 23, 2019.

Regarding Williams’ new role, GMA Executive Director Larry Hanson said:

“On behalf of GMA and all of our 538 member cities, we congratulate Mayor Vince Williams of Union City on his unanimous selection as Second Vice President of the National League of Cities. Over 4,000 delegates from across the United States attended the NLC City Summit in San Antonio where Mayor Williams was voted into this position. This is certainly an honor for Mayor Williams, but also for the city of Union City and GMA. He currently serves as GMA’s First Vice President, which further supports the respect municipal leaders have for him in Georgia and all over the United States.”

Williams first joined Union City’s City Council in 2007 and was elected mayor in 2013. He became GMA’s First Vice President at the annual convention this past June.

In a note to GMA leadership, Williams expressed excitement and gratitude for his new role, saying:

“I’m blessed and humbled to have the pleasure of representing Union City on a national platform, as well as GMA, all of our member cities and the great State of Georgia. Taking our communities from good to great is the order of day for us all, and please know that as long as I am member of the NLC leadership team, I will continue make sure the voices of all 538 Georgia cities are heard.”

Mayor Williams' passion, dedication, thoughtful leadership and commitment to cooperation and consensus building have resulted in him being recognized both locally and nationally for his achievements. He has been honored by Gov. Nathan Deal, received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the U.S. Secretary of State, and in 2017 was given the President’s Volunteer Service Award by President Barack Obama.
