Coronavirus Resources for Municipal Leaders

Thursday, March 19th, 2020

Georgia's cities are on the frontlines of the coronavirus outbreak. With more cases occurring across the state on a daily basis, it’s important for local leaders to know where to find timely, accurate information. The links below will provide municipal leaders the information they need about the threat this virus poses as well as suggestions for actions to take to safeguard their communities.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a thorough and informative section of their website dedicated preventing the spread of COVID-19 in communities. The resources here will be particularly useful for municipal leaders, with guidelines for preventing the spread of the virus at home, in schools and universities, large gatherings, information for travelers and more. There’s also a page detailing how to conduct a personal risk assessment for people who may have been exposed as well as a nationwide map that’s updated daily detailing how and where the virus is spreading. You can access all the CDC’s resources here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/index.html

Georgia Municipal Association

GMA has created a high-level memorandum for our members in the event of a coronavirus outbreak in your community. It contains information about public meetings, employment and service issues, declarations of emergency, event permits and more. You can access the memorandum here:

The Georgia Department of Public Health

The Georgia Department of Public Health is working with the CDC and partners across the state to monitor the development of the virus. Resources on their website include factsheets, downloadable materials, (including a presentation and poster) as well as other relevant information. Coronavirus Local Response Initiative

Bloomberg Philanthropies launched a new program of support to help American mayors respond to the rapidly evolving Coronavirus. Bloomberg Philanthropies will work with partners to identify, in real time, the needs and lessons learned from cities experiencing the outbreak that can be shared with additional cities eager to get ahead of the virus’ spread.

The program is open to all cities in the U.S. and will accommodate as many participants as possible. Interested mayors and city leaders should email [email protected] to apply.

National League of Cities

The National League of Cities has a coronavirus toolkit specifically designed for local leaders. You can find it here: https://www.nlc.org/resource/coronavirus-response-resources-for-local-leaders
