Gainesville’s February Unemployment Rate Remains Unchanged

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Gainesville’s February unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.4 percent. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent. Despite this, Gainesville’s labor force was at an all-time high in the month of February.
 
“Thanks to the hard work of many Georgians, February saw gains in jobs, labor force, and the number of employed for much of the state,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “As we look towards the spring and summer months, we remain committed to working with employers as they continue to fill open positions with suitable job seekers.”
 
The labor force increased in Gainesville by 171 and ended the month with an all-time high of 106,670. That number is up 1,937 when compared to February of 2021.
 
Gainesville finished the month with 104,096 employed residents. That number increased by 161 over the month and is up by 2,664 when compared to the same time a year ago.
 
Gainesville ended February with 96,700 jobs. That number increased by 200 from January to February and increased by 3,100 when compared to this time last year.
  
The number of unemployment claims increased by 2 percent in Gainesville in February. When compared to last February, claims were down by about 85 percent.
 
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 1,825 active job postings in Gainesville for February.
