Gainesville Sees Drop in November Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.2 percent in November, down three-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.1 percent.

"We are seeing job numbers continue to rise across the state as Georgians secure employment,” said Commissioner Butler. “Unemployment rates also dropped in regions throughout Georgia in November as we entered the holiday employment period.”

The labor force decreased in Gainesville by 594 and ended the month with 105,561. That number went down by 643 when compared to November of 2021.

Gainesville finished the month with 103,269 employed residents. That number decreased by 263 over the month and decreased by 744 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Gainesville ended November with 99,200 jobs, an all-time high. From October to November, job numbers rose 200. When compared to November of 2021, job numbers rose by 1,300.

The number of unemployment claims increased by 53 percent in Gainesville in November. When compared to last November, claims were up by about 79 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 2,325 active job postings in Gainesville for November.
