Gainesville’s Unemployment Rate Holds Steady in June

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.7 percent in June, unchanged from a revised 2.7 percent in May. A year ago, the rate was 2.7 percent. 

"The bedrock of a thriving economy lies in maintaining low unemployment, but equally essential is striking the right balance between job growth and a capable workforce that can meet the evolving needs of Georgia’s industries,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This well-balanced approach ensures businesses of all sizes have the talent they need to grow and succeed." 

The labor force decreased in Gainesville by 103 and ended the month with 108,947. That number went up by 1,255 when compared to June of 2022. 

Gainesville finished the month with 105,956 employed residents. That number decreased over-the-month by 152 and increased by 1,150 when compared to the same time a year ago. 

Gainesville ended May with 103,700 jobs. From May to June, job numbers decreased by 100. When compared to June of 2022, job numbers increased by 2,900.

 In June, initial unemployment claims increased by 2 percent in Gainesville. When you compare June 2023 claims to June 2022, claims were down by 23 (-8%).
