Gainesville Unemployment Rate Drops Heading into the New Year

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.2 percent in November, down five-tenths of a percent over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 2.2 percent.
 
“As we prepare to ring in a new year, Georgia’s future is bright, said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With holiday shopping and retail kicking back up, Georgia’s unemployment rates are dropping faster than holiday deals. Coupled with a soaring job market and a workforce ready to take on limitless opportunities, Georgia is well on the road to success.”

The labor force increased in Gainesville by 46 and ended the month with 110,430, an all-time high. That number went up by 3,218 when compared to November of 2022.

Gainesville finished the month with 107,964 employed residents, an all-time high. That number increased by 540 over-the-month and rose by 3,093 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Gainesville ended November with 106,000 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 400 from October to November and rose by 3,300 when compared to this time last year.

In November, initial unemployment claims increased by 14 (5%) in Gainesville. When you compare November 2023 claims to November 2022, claims were down by 6 (-2%).
