Patients with prostate cancer in Northeast Georgia now have access to a cutting-edge treatment option close to home. Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) Braselton is the first hospital in north Georgia to offer the NanoKnife System as a surgical option for prostate cancer.    

NanoKnife technology is a minimally invasive surgical option that allows surgeons to treat hard-to-reach tumors. This treatment option, commonly used for treating pancreatic cancer, uses small probes to deliver electrical currents that destroy tumors precisely where needed so surrounding tissues are not damaged.  

“We are excited to offer the NanoKnife treatment as a new option for patients with prostate cancer,” said Dr. Ron Lewis, medical director for perioperative services at NGMC. “Because this treatment doesn’t involve freezing or burning the tumor, there is less damage of healthy tissue, meaning fewer side effects, a shorter stay in the hospital and a quicker recovery.”
