Georgia Regional Commissions Report Unchanged or Declining Unemployment Rates

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that all of Georgia’s Regional Commissions experienced unchanged or declining unemployment rates.
 
“Georgia continues to thrive, fueled by a powerhouse workforce and savvy economic investments,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “For the past 48 months and counting, Georgia has continued to outshine the nation with low unemployment and high-quality jobs. Our regional unemployment numbers are a testament to this remarkable track record of success and Georgia’s ability to drive economic opportunity across virtually every corner of the state.”

Atlanta Regional Commission
  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.0 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.3 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 19,663 over-the-month and up 34,101 over-the-year, to 2,698,638, an all-time high.

  • The number of employed was up 19,470 over-the-month and up 39,916 over-the-year, to 2,617,293, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were down 1,433 (-11%) over-the-month and up 730 (7%) over-the-year, to 11,379.

Central Savannah River 

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 3.8 percent over-the-month, the rate was 4.1 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 1,068 over-the-month and up 1,147 over-the-year, to 209,296.

  • The number of employed was up 1,169 over-the-month and up 1,784 over-the-year, to 201,346.

  • Initial claims were down 1,084 (-50%) over-the-month and down 45 (-4%) over-the-year, to 1,095.

Coastal Georgia

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.8 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.2 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 2,498 over-the-month and up 6,620 over-the-year, to 353,704, an all-time high.

  • The number of employed was up 2,424 over-the-month and up 7,748 over-the-year, to 343,634, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were down 195 (-15%) over-the-month and up 67 (7%) over-the-year, to 1,088.

Georgia Mountains

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.6 percent over-the-month, the rate was 2.9 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 2,522 over-the-month and up 9,268 over-the-year, to 253,274.

  • The number of employed was up 2,525 over-the-month and up 9,687 over-the-year, to 246,657.

  • Initial claims were down 242 (-23%) over-the-month, and up 146 (21%) over-the-year, to 827. 

Heart of Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 3.5 percent over-the-month, the rate was 4.0 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 992 over-the-month and up 3,105 over-the-year, to 120,967.

  • The number of employed was up 1,102 over-the-month and up 3,604 over-the-year, to 116,768.

  • Initial claims were down 611 (-54%) over-the-month, and down 60 (-10%) over-the-year, to 523. 

Middle Georgia 

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.3 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.7 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 1,082 over-the-month and up 1,304 over-the-year, to 216,821.

  • The number of employed was up 1,078 over-the-month and up 2,094 over-the-year, to 209,657.

  • Initial claims were down 241 (-22%) over-the-month and up 2 (0%) over-the-year, to 869.

 

Northeast Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 2.9 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.1 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 2,517 over-the-month and up 8,587 over-the-year, to 337,906, an all-time high.

  • The number of employed was up 2,691 over-the-month and up 8,896 over-the-year, to 328,018, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were down 287 (-21%) over-the-month and up 120 (12%) over-the-year, to 1,109.

Northwest Georgia 

  • The unemployment rate was down three-tenths to 2.9 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.3 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 2,354 over-the-month and up 7,134 over-the-year, to 444,693, an all-time high.

  • The number of employed was up 3,243 over-the-month and up 8,554 over-the-year, to 431,621, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were down 5,587 (-72%) over-the-month and down 991 (-31%) over-the-year, to 2,172.

River Valley

  • The unemployment rate was down two-tenths to 3.7 percent over-the-month, the rate was 4.3 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 822 over-the-month and up 2,481 over-the-year, to 144,916.

  • The number of employed was up 989 over-the-month and up 3,282 over-the-year, to 139,522.

  • Initial claims were down 1,088 (-64%) over-the-month and down 74 (-11%) over-the-year, to 612. 

Southern Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 3.3 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.7 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 1,353 over-the-month and up 2,162 over-the-year, to 179,679.

  • The number of employed was up 1,464 over-the-month and up 2,847 over-the-year, to 173,753.

  • Initial claims were down 826 (-53%) over-the-month and down 83 (-10%) over-the-year, to 729.

  • Southwest Georgia 

  • The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.4 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.8 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 800 over-the-month and down 47 over-the-year, to 145,671.

  • The number of employed was up 848 over-the-month and up 580 over-the-year, to 140,735.

  • Initial claims were down 320 (-36%) over-the-month and up 54 (11%) over-the-year, to 560.

 

Three Rivers

  • The unemployment rate was down one-tenth to 2.9 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.2 percent one year ago.

  • The labor force was up 1,774 over-the-month and up 4,040 over-the-year, to 263,467, an all-time high.

  • The number of employed was up 2,068 over-the-month and up 4,789 over-the-year, to 255,791, an all-time high.

  • Initial claims were down 1,507 (-60%) over-the-month and down 92 (-8%) over-the-year, to 1,022.
