Gainesville Reports a 2.8% Unemployment Rate for January 2025

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that Gainesville recorded an unemployment rate of 2.8 percent in January, a three-tenths increase from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 2.7 percent.

"While job growth has faced challenges this month, key industries across the state continue to offer opportunities for hardworking Georgians. Even with the rise in unemployment, our mission remains clear—helping Georgia’s workers find and keep meaningful employment in every corner of our state.”

The labor force in Gainesville increased by 245, ending the month with 108,872 workers. This number represents an increase of 573 compared to January 2024.

Gainesville finished the month with 105,819 employed residents. This number decreased by 42 from the previous month, but rose by 413 compared to the same time last year.

The number of jobs in Gainesville stood at 107,600 in January. This marked a decrease of 1,700 jobs from December to January, but an increase of 1,400 jobs when compared to the same time last year.

In January, initial unemployment claims increased by 28 in Gainesville. When comparing January 2024 claims to January 2025, claims were up by one, totaling 338.
