People can still get care for eight different specialties in one location near Highway 316, one year after Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) opened Medical Plaza 1 in Bethlehem. More than 1,000 people came out to the building off Loganville Highway last weekend to celebrate the anniversary with a Fall Fest including live music, food trucks, games, a photo booth and special activities for kids like a teddy bear clinic, face painting and touch-a-truck.

“This was the goal from the start,” said John Neidenbach, administrator for Northeast Georgia Medical Center Barrow, which is just 5 miles down the road. “Seeing all these people come out, walk through the building, talk to our doctors and have some fun outside is exciting. Seeing the community come together to celebrate is great.”

Northeast Georgia Health System celebrated the one-year anniversary of Medical Plaza 1 in Bethlehem with a Fall Fest on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Kids enjoyed exploring fire trucks, police cars and ambulances brought by local first responders, along with other kid-friendly activities

Free health screenings were also available to all attendees and more than 60 people received their flu shot. Each person had the chance to meet physicians on-site, tour the urgent care center and visit the orthopedic walk-in clinic.

The two-story, 34,000-square-foot building is located at 990 Loganville Highway, near the intersection of Carl-Bethlehem Road, which is easily accessible from Highway 316. It’s the home of Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG) Family Health Associates – a well-established primary care office that moved from its longtime home in downtown Winder. NGPG Orthopedic Surgery and NGPG Sports Medicine also relocated to Medical Plaza 1, along with Georgia Heart Institute. Other services like urgent care, general surgery, OB-GYN and behavioral health are also inside Medical Plaza 1.

“We want everyone who lives in this area – whether they’re in Barrow, Walton, Oconee or Clarke County – to know that we’re right here to take care of them in their backyard,” said Jason Wells, MD, a general surgeon at Medical Plaza 1. “Hopefully the turnout is a good sign that people know we make it a point to get involved in the community and give back beyond the bedside.”
