Friday, January 16th, 2026
The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Gainesville Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3%, up six-tenths from September to November. A year ago, the rate was 2.7%.
“Jobs are growing in every metro area because Georgia's businesses continue to invest and hire,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “That job growth means real paychecks supporting hardworking Georgians across our state. As we move into 2026, we'll continue connecting Georgians to mortgage-paying jobs and ensuring businesses have the skilled talent they need to grow.”
The labor force in Gainesville decreased by 93 from September to November and increased by 228 over the year, to 109,274.
Gainesville finished the month with 105,693 employed residents. That number decreased by 717 from September to November and fell by 414 from the same time a year ago.
Gainesville ended November with 109,000 jobs. That number was up 300 from the previous month and rose by 100 from the same time last year.
In November, initial unemployment claims decreased by 232 from the previous month and by 43 from the same month a year ago, totaling 185.
